The beauty of weakness as found in Philippians 2:
Jesus..."though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. (Philippians 2:6-8 ESV)

This new spiritual is designed to capture the pain and sorrow of the cross from a deep-in-the-gut kind of place. Again, the medium of expression should not be understated or unappreciated as this particular style brings with it a pain and a longing which can be felt deeply both in a musical sense as well as an emotional one. The choruses take us out of the traditional form, moving us from sorrow to glory: this pain means my glory, this sorrow means my joy, this defeat, means my victory.

“To some, the image of a pale body glimmering on a dark night whispers of defeat. What good is a God who does not control his Son's suffering? But another sound can be heard: the shout of a God crying out to human beings, "I LOVE YOU." Love was compressed for all history in that lonely figure on the cross, who said that he could call down angels at any moment on a rescue mission, but chose not to - because of us. At Calvary, God accepted his own unbreakable terms of justice."
― Philip Yancey

lyrics

VERSE1:
O the dark, dark way of the cross,
O the dark, dark way of the cross,
Beaten, scorned, and mocked, still my Jesus walked,
O the dark, dark way of the cross.

VERSE2:
There he bore my cross to Calvary,
There he bore my cross to Calvary,
Took the weight of sin on his back with him
When he bore my cross to Calvary,

CHORUS 1:
Oh, the blood he poured
From the thorns on the crown that he wore
Oh the road he walked,
Down that dark, dark way of the cross.

VERSE 3:
Then they nailed his body to that tree,
Then they nailed his body to that tree,
Took our sin and death with his dying breath,
When they nailed his body to that tree

CHORUS 2:
Oh my death he died,
When my Savior was crucified
Oh when hope was lost,
Walked that dark, dark way of the cross.
