"Lord Have Mercy on Me"
words and music by Randy Bonifield based on traditional Kyrie

Based on the traditional Kyrie, this song in combination with David's plea for mercy in Psalm 51 is a confessional cry for God's mercy. Musically, this song is designed as a heart cry and the influence of spirituals and the blues should not go unnoticed or uncredited. Both musical forms (which are very closely related) come from the gut and hold on to the idea deep down that there is something more than what we now experience. In this case, the cry for mercy is centered on the belief in a liberation that only God in can bring.

lyrics

CHORUS:
Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy,
Lord have mercy on me.
Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy,
Lord have mercy on me.

VERSE:
In my weakness and in my shame,
From this darkness, I call out Your name.
Come and deliver my soul from this pain,
Lord have mercy on me.
