Angels We Have Heard on High

from Songs of Christmas by Randy Bonifield/Christ Community Church

/

about

A bit of a funky spin on the classic carol, "Angels We Have Heard on High," this arrangement originated in a little Christmas acoustic band I played with many years ago called "Squeezebox Jimmy and the Wheelies." It morphed into more of a gospel version when I led The Salvation Army's MoKan Gospel Choir and here it takes on a bit more of a cross between Motown and Gospel. But what you really need to know is that this is just plain fun. This version is a staple during the Christmas season at Christ Community's Leawood Campus and it just wouldn't be Christmas without it.

lyrics

Verse 1
Angels we have heard on high
Sweetly singing o'er the plains
And the mountain in reply
Echo back their joyous strains

Chorus
Gloria Gloria in excelsis Deo (2X)

Verse 2
Shepherds why this jubilee
Why your joyous strains prolong
What the gladsome tidings be
Which inspire your heav’nly song

Verse 3
Come to Bethlehem and see
Him Whose birth the angels sing
Come adore on bended knee
Christ the Lord the newborn King
